The bail system is designed to guarantee the appearance of a defendant in court. Here are some things you will need to know when arranging for someone's bail:
Be sure of the jail he/she is being held at, and know whether it is a county, state, or federal jurisdiction.
Obtain the following information:
- Booking number
- Charge(s)
- Full legal name
- Date of birth
- Social security number, if possible
- The bail amount
In most jurisdictions, only a licensed bail agent can post bail. Also, persons who have just been arrested and are being processed are usually not eligible to see visitors for several hours.
Please note that bail bond agencies are required by the state they are licensed in to collect that state's legal premium rate of the total bail. You will have to pay this amount before any bail can be posted unless you are approved for financing with this company. Visit each of our office pages to learn more about the process in that state.
As payment, we accept cash, certified checks, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. You may also be approved for one of our many financing options. In some cases, although very few, you may be required to secure the bond or the payment plan with a form of collateral (for example, a home, car, boat or other asset of value).
